THINGS TO SEE & DO
IN SOUTHWESTERN MONTANA
Southwestern Montana is known for its beauty and rugged terrain, challenging skiing, and world-class fishing. Wildflowers cover the landscape from April to August. The stunning Madison Range and Madison River Valley are home to the richest and most diverse wildlife population in the lower 48 states. Wildlife can be seen throughout the area year-round. Once winter arrives, wintering herds of elk, sometimes numbering in the thousands, are common along the alluvial plains, south of Ennis. Frequently seen are moose, bighorn sheep, deer, coyotes, and antelope. Less commonly observed, unless you’re willing to get off the beaten track, are black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, bobcats, mountain lions, and mountain goats. Seldom does a person visit without planning how they can return again someday soon.
